"Mindfulness is a way of learning to relate directly to whatever is happening in your life,a way of taking charge of your life, a way to do something for yourself that no one else can do for you - consciously and systematically working with your own stress, pain, illness, and the challenges and demands of everyday life."*

"Fortunately, mindfulness is not something that you have to 'get' or acquire,
it is a natural human capacity - a powerful resource you can become familiar with
and harness for coping, for growing, for moving towards greater levels of health and well-being."*

What is Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction?

Mindfulness is the ability to focus attention and to live in the present moment rather than being
past-, future-, or fantasy-oriented.  Mindfulness grounds you in the here and now to strengthen your ability to see events with a new sense of clarity and relaxed alertness.  This new perspective yields extensive positive effects on your mind, body, emotions, relationships and performance.   Through simple practice, you will learn how to help yourself cope effectively with daily distress and take care of your life in an exciting new way.

There is a strong connection between mental states and physical health.  MBSR is a systematized awareness training program developed during the past three decades at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.   Participants learn how to be in the present moment and to manage the challenges of their lives in a conscious, organized way.   Research has shown that the purposeful practice of mindfulness can have a positive effect on health, stress, perception and well being.
